Nepal Micro Hydro

The distribution of the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) into the developing world including places without mains power or internet, raises the question of appropriate power technologies. A selection of small hydro schemes in Nepal below are particularly interesting in that none have road access.

1 kW approximately micro hydro
Provides power for the tea house at Deurali Pass, near Ghorepani.




10 kW approximately micro hydro
This provides power for the village of Ghandruk.

Community renewable energy project

The Emerald Primary School solar panels are installed. This project is an innovative community funded project by the Dandenong Ranges Renewable Energy Association.

Solar panels are purchased by the Association from Member contributions. These contributions are equivalent to the purchase price of one solar panel or half of one solar panel. Those Members are paid for the electricity those panels produce.
